Let's draw a mailbox with a flag
Treat this as one small practice round: build the subject lightly, notice the shapes, then darken only the lines that help the finished sketch.

Block the box
Draw a long rounded-top box, keeping the front curve slightly taller than the back edge.
Sketch tip: Think of a rectangle with a half circle roof. Light construction lines make the curve easier to adjust.

Set door and post
Add the curved front door line, then place a vertical support post under the mailbox.
Sketch tip: Center the post under the box so the mailbox feels balanced before details go on.

Raise the flag
Draw the side flag standing up from the mailbox and refine the outside body edges.
Sketch tip: Keep the flag simple: one narrow arm and one small rectangle are enough to read clearly.

Mark the hardware
Add a tiny front handle, a side seam, and a few small edge marks to show the mailbox panels.
Sketch tip: Small details work best when they follow the main curve. Do not crowd the door.

Ground the post
Sketch grass tufts around the post, shade the mailbox blue-gray, and color the raised flag red.
Sketch tip: Let the grass overlap the post a little. That helps the mailbox sit in the scene instead of floating.

Finish the mailbox
Darken the keeper lines, clarify the flag and hardware, and deepen the shading and grass already in place.
Sketch tip: Avoid adding letters or numbers. The raised flag, rounded box, and post tell the story clearly.
