Let's draw a light bulb
Treat this as one small practice round: build the subject lightly, notice the shapes, then darken only the lines that help the finished sketch.

Shape the glass envelope
Draw a rounded dome above the middle of the page. Bring both sides down and inward into a narrow neck, leaving the bottom open. Keep the widest part above the neck and use two smooth shoulder curves.
Sketch tip: Ghost the long curve twice before touching down; use light keeper lines, not a separate construction oval.

Draw the threaded metal base
Join the two open neck ends with a shallow curved collar band. Beneath it, draw a short tapered screw base with three raised diagonal bands, then add one small rounded contact button at the bottom. Let the bands form the side edges of the shell and shade their lower edges lightly.
Sketch tip: Draw each band as two close curves rising gently right. Count three bands, leaving a clear collar above and contact below.

Build the filament inside
From the center of the collar, raise a narrow glass stem with two sides and a fine center line. Close its top with a small oval cap. Add two support wires angling up and apart from the cap, then join their tips with a short coiled filament. Keep the wires inside the glass outline.
Sketch tip: Draw the coil as a small connected wave between the two wire tips; avoid filling the bulb with extra wiring.

Reserve the glass reflections
Inside the upper-left glass wall, add one long narrow curved reflection shape. Add a shorter curved reflection on the lower right. Sketch a loose horizontal ground shadow under the contact button.
Sketch tip: Keep both reflection shapes empty; their white paper will make the glass read as transparent.

Shade glass and warm metal
Glaze pale blue-gray along the established glass edges, leaving the middle and both reflections nearly white. Shade the metal shell with ochre pencil, deepen the three threads and contact with graphite, and soften the existing ground shadow.
Sketch tip: Use the side of the pencil with light pressure. The bulb should stay mostly paper, with the darkest values at its base.
